i am about to buy a new 48in Scag Cub...... there are 3 differnt motors i can choose from so i thought id see what every body thinks is best

    48" Velocity Plus™ Cutter Deck, 26hp Briggs & Stratton ELS air-cooled engine
    STC48V-19KAI 48" Velocity Plus™ Cutter Deck, 19hp Kawasaki KAI air-cooled engine
    STC48V-23CV 48" Velocity Plus™ Cutter Deck, 23hp Kohler air-cooled engine

I would go with the 23hp Kohler. While the others are good engines, the Kawasaki will be too underpowered for your mower and Briggs is just not as good of an engine as Kohler. A Kohler engine will last much longer than a Briggs if it is properly maintained (I'm not saying that briggs won't last long, just not as long as Kohler). So go with the Kohler for sure.

just went threw it an purchased the cub with 52' deck an 25 kohler. It's on promo from scag much more mower for less money. I originaly was going to get the 48' with kaw. eng. after using I'm happy with choice.

Hey, what Kohler is it? If its the Command, its a sure thing, but if it is the Courage, you are prolly just as good going with the els briggs. The Courage and the ELS are rated about the same, and you will get a more powerful engine that way for a little less money.

COMMAND, lot of eng. in a small chassis very manuverable was only 300 more than the 48' with the 17 hp kaw eng. on the cub. also 48' deck is very even with rear tires I think sidewalls would suffer when trying to cut close
