I have a Shindaiwa T231 and I bought a speed feed 450 replacement head. However there is a adapter bolt that I cannot remove from the gear casing. You can see it here as piece #1

    http://www.shindaiwa.com/nam/en/_docs/trimmerheadguide.pdf

right below the bolt is the the collar on the gear shaft seen here as #11

    http://www.shindaiwa.com/nam/en/_docs/ipls/trimmers/t231_t231b.pdf

The collar and bolt spin independently and I can't see a way to lock the gear case to unscrew the bolts.

Honestly this is maddening. Can someone please help me out here?

the smooth collar will slide out of the unit, this should allow enough to show for you to grab the shaft
with the end of some needle nose pliers. wrap a rag around the threads of the adapter so you don't mess up the threads and use regular pliers to remove it. ( FYI i think these adapters have backwards threads)

    First thank you for replying

However I don't understand what you mean by smooth collar. Here is a better diagram I found

I need to remove "A,B, or C" from "Arbor Bolt" However the ABC bolts are covered by the collar and the collar will only spin it doesn't have any room to move up or down.

I don't think your suppose to remove the bolt from the gear box. You need a female adaptor that goes in your head.

the smooth collar ring that is at the base of the head has a hole in the side of it. Put an Allen wrench in it and line it up with he hole on the shaft and you should be able to spin off the head. If you need to change the bolt coming out of the shaft, use a slotted screwdriver on he end of it and remove it and replace it with the appropriate adapter that comes with the 450.

you wil need "a b or c" with your speed feed also so if it is stuck in your trimmer find the adapter that fits it , if it is stuck in your head use a pair of pliers and a rag to remove it.

might do better taking a picture of what you got and posting it. i put my e-mail in your visitor messages so we can work this out, you don't have enough posts to PM you can also e-mail me thru my website
