In Iowa - - 1/2 acre less house.

New construction, working on establishing a yard. The contractor used a slit seeder 3-4 weeks ago, but only seeded one direction. The seed is coming up nice, but essentialy I have rows of grass now. I continue to overseed, but it has been so windy that nearly all of that blows away.

Should I continue to overseed, overseed and cover with something, or rent a slit seeder and go another direction with it? If I go the slit seeder route, do they do a good job of leveling out the soil behind the machine so that the soil remains even? If I leave it as is, I would think it would take years to fill in nicely.

Had I known what he was going to do I would have told him not to bother and I would have rented the slit seeder myself and went 2 or 3 directions.

Thanks in advance for any help.
