We do a ton of hedges and our main trimmer is a echo hc-185 which is echos largest hedge clipper and it has a 30" bar. It is a great unit.

I'd get an extended reach trimmer such as a stihl or echo. I hate the smaller units as you need ladders to reach the high stuff and you need to bend over to get the low stuff.

I use a stihl FS90 with the articulating hedge trimmer on the end. Makes my life really easy.

You have to have both in my opinion. There is no way you could easily trim small hedges like rounded boxwoods, etc. Both have their place in this job.

So, what would you choose though if you had to have one?

Personally I'd go with the "shorter" extended reach extended trimmer. Not as long as the full extended reach to do smaller bushes.
