Up until it died this winter, I ran a 1998 K1500 for 5 years. I bought 3500# helper springs for the back and would haul my 7x14 trailer with grass box, as well as load my spray tank and chems in the bed (when tank was full, this was a whopping 3500# of weight).

With that background, here's my advice: YES, it CAN do it. But NO, it wasn't very safe. While it might have held the weight, it sure as crap didn't like braking. And on uphills, it was all I could do to get the truck rolling from a complete stop.

If the budget demands you use that truck, then go for it. Otherwise, you might want to look into something designed to carry real weight.

You could always put a 3/4 ton rear under it.

As Tamer said that truck was a POS
Did you ever give it a proper burial?

It's sitting next to my barn where I save it for spare parts for the Suburban.

LOL. When I bought this house there were more than a dozen cars/trucks/trailers rotting away. We ensured that they were all gone before we took possession of the place... and in less than a year, I've got one of my own.
