New Cat 257D any thoughts?

    Im assuming the 259 is a lot more money, also it weighs 1000lbs more....

    The under carriage on the 259 is a lot more durable and will cost less to operate per hour . Not sure what the up front price differences is ? Do you ever plan on running any attachments ? If so which ones, you may as well set it up right from the start. Do you deal with Alban over there or someone else ?

    I have the 257b and am very pleased with it. If your mechanically inclined you can save a lot in labor, the undercarriage is simple (IMHO) to work on. Parts are expensive, but after owning many different types of "tracked"(key word) machines I've found they're all expensive :)

    After putting a few hundred hours on a 277c I can adamantly say I will never own a MTL(ends in 7). I would get a 259 instead if I were you. I'd get myself a 279. Undercarriage is fragile and expensive to fix when it breaks, often.

    Wow thanx for the replys .they are all over the board. Lol the 259 cork is about 3k more than the 257 d mtl. I'm thinking for my use the mtl 257 is the way to go. It's 1000 lbs lighter 3 k cheaper n tears up less. Line I said earlier I use my machine 25% landscape like grading n going through grass lawn 25 % snow plowing full open lots and. 50% around my shop moving loading unloading ect on a crushed concrete base .

    In my experience 7s don't hold up as well.

    Look at something other than purchase price. Look at cost to own a 9 is going to be much much cheaper. 3k difference is about one set of tracks.

    Weight is kind of irreveavant in my opinion. 1000 lbs is nothing you hardly have any ground pressure as it is.

    7s will tear up just as much as 9s. Once you start turning your tearing stuff up

    So the main difference between a Ctl and mtl us the Ctl has metal rollers and the. Mtl had rubber ?

    I don't mind spending more if the Ctl is the way to go. I'm just seeing a split on what guys are suggesting

    No they both have metal. Just look at them side by side youll be able to tell

    There's plenty of tracks that do good in the snow for ctls

    It sounds like if anyone could make an MTL work it would be you, based on what you say you want to do with it. Just know that the resale on CAT MTLs is bad. Also know that when you have to work on it, its expensive. Also if you a certain job comes your way that may not be suitable for an MTL are you going to take it? With a CTL the resale is better, not as expensive to work on, and you can work it nearly everywhere. I agree that an MTL in winter is better than a CTL with Winter tracks, that Camoplast track was made to run in the Winter and it does it well. I also agree that $3K is nothing over the life of the machine.

    What type of job would not be suitable for a mtl but wound be for a Ctl .

    And if I go with the Ctl would I be able to plow with it even if not the best ?
