Signed contract with local builder here back in Jan. for a new 30 x 40 shop. Guys came out last night and dropped off building supplies, started today. I'm glad to I'm running out of space just ordered new trailer and some other new equipment, between the old and the new I was pinched for storage, few more weeks and I'll be good for a while again. Nice thing is where the building is placed I'll be able to add on fairly easily as I need to. They expect to have the shell up by Friday, gotta wait until warmer temps to get the concrete in.
The ground here was actually pretty soft, its been unseasonably warm for Feb. Hole the posts were set in looked like they had about a foot of water in each one. Spring will be here soon, That deserve a Howard Dean war whoop :waving:
Good luck w/ that. This will be storage only w/ electric I suppose. If you're putting anything in the slab - stub it in first. I would also suggest 6"dga under wire + 6" reinforced concrete for the floor. Also, a good epoxy paint on the floor is very helpful. Good luck w/ your pole barn. We love our 40X60!

Good luck with the shop.. Mine will be started on the 28th. Hopefully . I am putting up a 24X32x10. Wanted bigger but really didn't have the room. I am sure you can't wait as I am getting anxious as the we get closer to the end of the month
I am acctually getting into building polebarns. I put up a few for another company over the last couple of months. Its amazing on how nice these buildings can come out. I am still doing research on what distributor/materials i want to use, but hopefully in the next 3-4 weeks i will start advertising. I plan on directing a majority of my marketing on people with horses. I thought about mailing every landscaper in the phone book a letter about ple buildings, however i doubt i would be too successful since i do mowing/landscaping under the same business, Rusk Enterprisess LLC.

Yeah, I know what you mean about how well the finished building turns out. The other part I like is how quick these guys can do this, I mean I'm handy enough to get it done but not at near the speed the guys that do this for a living can Besides I got a great deal on this from the builder, he's a good guy, wanted to have projects to keep some guys working instead of laying off, at least as long as the weather would hold.

Yeah now that theyt started I am anxious to have it complete, still will have to wait for warmer weather to do the concrete, but oh well. I wasn't originally planning on even contacting them until March, but as I mentioned they wanted work for their guys to do at a moments notice for this time of year. Good Luck with your shop, once they get started it will be up in about the time you can blink.
Carolina Cuts hmmmm... equipment is gonna get wet...
Yep the electric I will do, trench line in from garage/house (weatherhead still on garage roof from building I tore down) to breaker box, just want to power the basics right now, lights, outlets, overhead door. Yes already planned for stubing things in.
I think ya got a really big hole in your roof!!
are they doing metal or shingle roof, just wondering.
If metal roofs are not insulated really good it condensates then it will be raining inside.
congrats on the new shop.
I want to get one of them before next winter if I can pull it off.
Just a quick question, Why didn't they prep for concrete before they started building the pole building? Won't it be hard to excavate the sod and dirt after the building is up?
I know it is possible, but just saying that wouldn't it be easier to do before the building is built.

If you take a look at the base in one of the pics you will seethe treated plate that runs the perimeter of the base of the building is a little over a foot from the ground on the one corner. They will bring in base material to bring things up to grade, once this is done then the concrete work begins.
Hey Green Pro that;s going to be nice size pole barn I will building one this spring myself how much will this cost u for material or is he charging you for complete labor & material that's the same size I will be building but doing it myself!

Green pro. I built that same size pole barn in North West AR about 3 years ago. I'm curious what contractors in other states are charging for that construction. What are you paying for this barn? Does it include the concrete and electric?
Just curious. If you don't want to post those numbers here for everyone you can pm me or email at kking@2river.com
Mine costed out as follows. These are 2002 dollars
Barn 9400 (Insulated, screwed 26 GA metal, 2 slider doors and 2 walk in)
2000 (Concrete and all electrical)
TOT 11,400
Congrats Green Pro! Looks and sounds like it'll be a nice shop. I know I spend more time in my shop then I do the house. When we bought this place it had a 36x36 heated shop already built. Good luck with it and post some after pics.

Thanks Buck, Know what you mean about spending more time in the shop than the house. Our place has an attached three car garage with an overhead industrial heater...Operative word here is attached, don't get me wrong I love my family dearly, but between a wife and four daughters, sometimes I'm looking pretty hard for a little man time
My five year old, I can tell already though will be the one in the shop with me and getting hands dirty. If it has anything to do with tractors (combines, enclosed cab Deere for running wagons, etc.) or construction she is all over it.
Will do on the after pics, these guys are setting landspeed records getting things done, very pleased so far.

Your oldest daughter sounds just like my 3 year boy. He is into any and all equipment and in fact is in the shop/office with me right now. He's got his own tool chest, tools, etc. He loves it out here...like father like son I guess.
Well I'm a little bit old fashioned in regards to some honest hard work being good for the soul, yep this will certainly be a family affair. The five year old may be on the fasttrack to supervisor though LOL, older girls may have a tough time swallowing that one
Buck,
Yeah they are fun when they want to pal around with you, even though I like to get some "man time" in I wouldn't trade the time I spend with each one of them for nothing.
Gotta tell ya though the five year old is one of the middle ones, 15, 8, 5, 2 is bringing up the rear, don't be setting my timeline back on me only three more years and they will all be in school, whew!!!
