i just got a new 48" bobcat a couple of months ago... now it seems like everytime i go to shut it off it sputters and acts like it doesn't want to shut off. finally when it does, it backfires like a gun shot..... does anybody know what could be wrong? thanks for your replies..

How long do you let it cool down before trying to turn it off? Some like to cut it off at diff. throttle positions. I let mine cool for two or three minutes first, and can't remember the last time it did backfire.
Some have had to cut the fuel off first, to not make it backfire.

do you think if i cut the throttle down to the "turtle", it might help?

I would say so, but some cut it off at 1/2 throttle, and some cut it off at full throttle. (Depends on the mower maybe?)

You also might try the "mechanic and repair" thread.

Do you have the engine manual for it. Some say to have the engine running at half throttle or higher when you turn off the key to prevent it from back firing and dieseling.
