    I saw you there.....
On the 7 acre sports complex that we were cutting....
As I made a turn on the soccer field heading toward the baseball field....
I spotted your belly crawling self....
Slithering across the soon to be cut grass....
Your Copper and tan body trying to blend in with the Fescue and Bluegrass....
Your forked tongue speaking your evil and deadly hiss....

Oh How I Hate A Snake....

I took care and lined up the big Green Deere....
All 60" of her 7 Iron Deck zeroed in on your slivering body....
I pushed the controls forward in your direction....
    Slowly at first....
    Then faster....

Oh How I Hate A Snake....

Just as I was about to reach you....
    I engaged the PTO....
The 3 Blades roared to life....
The big Kaw Engine hissed it's power back at you....

Oh How I Hate A Snake....

    You first stood your ground....
    Then you ran....
    And then you encountered....
    Those 3 blades....
Being turned by the big Kaw....

Oh How I Hate A Snake....

    You with your evil ways....
Me with 1400 pounds of commercial cutting machine....
    Bam...Slip....Bam....Slap....
And then 10 feet out the discharge shute you went....
    Hissing no more....Slithering no more....

Oh How I Hate A Snake....

At only about 3 feet long....
You were not the biggest Copperhead I had encountered in my day....
    But....
    On this day....
You are the Deadest Copperhead I encounter today....

Oh How I Hate A Snake....

I like how you put it in a poem form. I just recently hit a big old black racer, dont know how big cause the blades mulched it up to tiny pices. I think it was stuck to the top of my deck for a while LOL. Snakes always make me jump.

Mindlessly sitting on a mower is sometimes a very good thing...............

It was funny Mr. King, Get out of New Jersey once in a while and you'll see that the rest of the world isn't quite as cranky as those folks you're so used to.................. :waving:

Snakes are pretty cool actually. I was trimming hedges the other day and one stuck his head out of the top of the bush evidently to see what was going on. Don't know exactly what kind it was but I think it was a black racer. He was sheading. I just let him go on about his business while I went about mine. Too bad I did not have a camers. Would have been a pretty cool pic.

I've never seen one of those... I went camping and met a Blue Racer once in North Louisiana. I believe these snakes are related to the "coachwhip" aren't they? All I know is the Blue racer will chase you.. I Suppose all snakes in this family do...?

Catch those copperheads al the time. I love snakes and love to play with them then let them go. I can usually get everyone running after I've caught one.

Never cut em up. they eat the rats for us all.

I mowed lawns for two years in Florida in the mid-Eighties, started out with a Toro 11/32, homeowner thing. Was mowing a lawn with that Toro one day and saw this snake just busting a Carl Lewis in my direction. I figured he'd get the picture before he got under the deck, but he didn't. Thoom, thoomp. Snake steaks.
