I had read of this trick and decided to try it. I had a curved shaft echo that was ok on the power, nutin impressive. Pulled the muffler, first took off the deflector, cut it off some so it had a big opening, took off the restrictor plate that was under it.. Then drilled out the internal baffle. Put it back together, and tried it out.. Definately louder, defeniately more power, probly caused by higher rpms, it chewed through what grass i had. richened it abit so the rpms wouldn't go to high.. I wish i had learned this trick earlier.. Any body else tried this?? I don't know how it will afect engine life, but it should help, cause i have read they run cooler with less restrictive mufflers.. So any one else tried it??

    Later guys!! snapper

not exactly that but have run them without the spark arrester. they got really sluggish, and the arrester was plugged up.
