Opinions on this Volvo triaxle

    What advantage does a steerable 3rd axle have?

    They must think the third axles are scrubbing roads off or something.

    I've never had one, but don't you generally raise it when turning?

    I just checked the DOT page below. All trucks must be retrofitted by January 1, 2015 not just new trucks. I think they are trying to avoid guys lifting them with a load on turns.

    That's crazy. They are doing that so they can hand out a ton of tickets. Looks like it only applies to 2006 or newer trucks though.

    Did you get another larger SA truck to replace your 4700? Or do you still have that one? Just wondering if you still have a need for an in between sized truck. We have been tossing around the idea of a tandem or tri

    Kind of. I got the dodge 5500, obviously a lot smaller than the international was but I didn't like the size of that truck for much of anything really. The only real advantage I can see for big SA trucks is price of used ones.

    Yes this is true. I have a steerable on kenworth wouldn't buy a truck with out it because this has been talked about for years.
