I live in Cary NC( Zone 7 ). I am getting ready to lay empire zoysia sod this weekend.

I was wondering if there would be any benefit to applying some organic fertilizer before I lay the sod, and raking it in? I was thinking it may activate the soil a bit. I tilled and leveled the yard this past weekend.

If so, any recommendations for a good organic fertilizer? I was thinking perhaps corn meal.

I also have a small bag of starter fertilizer that I was planning on spreading a day or so before I lay the sod.

    Thanks!

Milorganite is an organic fertilizer that I use for just about everything I plant to give it a good start. You can put right on the roots and it won't burn them. You might want to try about 15 pounds per thousand square feet under the turf and on top of the soil to get it started.

  4. why not espoma bulb tone 4-10-6, a very organic and natural fert, very little salt! Will provide more p, as your sod may not need n, need to know when sod was last fert, amount of n, and source of n!

Rate @ 10lbs/m, but you need as soil test first!
