We are interested in purchasing a WB mower. The JD dealer that we have used has done a great job. From reading threads here at Lawnsite, it seems that most of you recommend a floating deck on a mower with a hydrostatic transmission. We are looking at the JD HD45 with what they call an oscillating deck. Can someone explain how this deck works? Thanks.

perhaps oscillating and floating are the same thing. I have never heard though someone calling a deck "oscillating."

I don't think that oscillating and floating are the same kind of deck. On the JD website, they talk about the mowers having oscillating (ie. HD45) decks or floating decks (ie. 7H17).

Maybe it's like some of the old JD walk's that pivoted in the middle. The one's that were painted two tone that would qualify as "oscillating".
