Osha called and told it was time for my annual safety training. I replied that I have been in business 17 years and never once been contacted by osha or aware of such requirements.
They then let me know if a worker is hurt and I don't have a black & white document to show the employee has been trained by osha that I am in a heap of trouble.
I don't mind complying to what is required but I question that I have to pay for the training. I have 2 employees.
Anyone aware of this and what is required?

Hmmm...I doubt that a governmental agency would call you. I get stuff in the mail that "looks" like it came from governmental agencies but its actually from private companies trying to trick people out of their money.

OSHA does not come and do safety training at small businesses as far as I know.

Thanks,I did not think his conversation sounded so professional in some ways but he did give osha's number 888-714-9562.
I will see if they come back.

I am so grateful for this forum. Glad you didn't get suckered into this, a lot more believable than a Nigerian prince needing your help!

    100% scam buddy…. it's been going around.

they are safety companies that DO offer you the safety training and it's pretty good idea to have it done a few times, and then you have a template to follow and you can have one of your in-house foremen or managers do it.

But they are trying to drum up business by telling it's mandatory…IT'S NOT….

MOSt landscape companies aren't even ON OSHAs Radar! they don't even bother with you if you don't employ (don't quote me My memory is fuzzy on this) something like 20 FULL TIME employees…. pretty much washes out almost every landscape company in any area but a few.

IF you are working on Davis Bacon jobs…. get the training…. but how many people are?

    It's a scam…AND I'd report it. We Did.

I have to point out OSHA is secondary in TN we abide by TOSHA here its administered by osha but we are held to higher standard. Next thing if you need help with this i can give you numbers etc. but they help you with safety plan compliance etc Free of charge and are actually easy to work with. They are there to help you not beat you up unless you dig trenches without trench wall etc..
