Out of the Pot into the fire

    Hello everyone:


    Just wanted to share an experience:

    I had a customer, Who thought I was being pushy.

    they would just call me when there grass needed cutting, " about every other week"
    our agreement was 35.00 a week.
    I let them get over on me a time or two, Then I explained to then that it's 35.00 a WEEK,,, Not just when it need's it.

    this went on for a month then they called and said "your cutting too often"

    So I gave them my speech about the Biweekly issue. they said fine your too expensive. so that was that.

    They went with some low-ballers. " I watched these guys cut there grass.

    Well I got a call yesterday from my EX customer and they wanted me to come look at there yard...

    IT WAS DEAD...

    they lost several flowers. due to line trimmer, the low-ballers sprayed something and killed there yard.

    They want me to somehow give there yard mouth to mouth.


    NOT wanting to be an I told ya so Type of guy... I'm wondering what to do now..


    we all know it can sodded, of just try to see if any comes back,
    But now I have a real basket case on my hands...
    I'm not sure if I even want them back as customers.....

    Save the headache and give the big "I TOLD YOU SO" anyway. Tell them you are to busy now with weekly cuts and can't fit the overhaul into your schedule.

    How About Telling Them Your Price Is Now 45 Per Week And That Has To Be In A Signed Contract. Plus Now Give Them A Full Price Quote For Power Seeding/dethatching The Lawn. Maybe Call The Dept Of Ag In Your State To Have Them Test For The Chemical Used. I Am Guessing That A Lowballer Would Not Have A Pesticide License.

    Let them know in a nice way that you at your max right now for taking lawns. You wish you could help but with the tight time frame you have it just is not possible. Don't be a jerk about it. The reason why I say this is because once your name gets out about being a smartass and rude to a former or current customer it is hard to get rid of. I would not go back ever to mow for the person.pita

    YEP love customers like that,they come begging back after there is damage and expect you to perform magic and make it all good again.This is really your choice.You need the xtra PITA charge and the money you will make fixing the lawn?If you don't get the $ somebody else will.Sometimes I have come back in,replace the lawn or fix it or reseed it,get my fix an idiots screw up charge,then tell them I'm sorry but they will have to find another person to maintain it ...in your case ...because you only accept weekly accounts and no on-call basis accounts any longer.
    That way YOU get that xtra cash for the fix instead of the next guy..but you don't have to stay with an account you don't want to deal with.

    run do not walk away from this mess. you don't know what chemical they used? christ i'm already gone. you DO KNOW they are a royal pita. whatsamatta you broke?

    They already dropped once. They will drop you again in a heartbeat!!!!!!

    Not to mention you have no idea what they put on that lawn. You could try something to fix it and be working against yourself.

    Tell them to water it and see what happens.
