I have a friend who helps me 2 days a week. At what point is he not considered part time help and becomes an employee. what are the benefits of paying part time labor money vs. employee and taxes.

    is there any advantage?

Im lost. If hes part time he is still an employee. If he works for you at all hes an employee, part or full time. The benefits of taxes? Its legal!

Part time labor is the same as an employee. An independent contractor (performs jobs on own time, uses own tools, etc; see irs website) may be paid up to $600 without the need to file a 1099. You need to order the Irs circular for employeers and get legit or trouble could head your way.
