I was wondering if you guys set the pitch for drainage well you dig out the dirt for the patio. Or do you set the pitch when your doing the first layer of base? Any replies would be appreciated.Do you dig out the the dirt as flat as you can?

Set the pitch with the dirt grade 1st because if you don't you will find yourself skimping on base material as you set that final grade for your pavers.

The pitch should also be in the soil. This allows for the
base material to be uniform, which in turn allows for the sand to
    be uniform.

You should know a little more about this before just jumping in. Contact ICPI or EP Henry about possible classes on this. I took one over the winter for $250. I made it back on the first job. If I recall, it's a 1/4 inch per 10 feet. DO NOT quote me on that. Do you have any engineering or archetec(?) freinds?

ICPI spec for base is + or - 3/8" over 10 feet. You must of missed that one on the test Conpro.;) I am an instructor for the ICPI certification class.

ICPI is having a class in Brunswick, Ohio, just South of Cleveland about 20 miles and 20 miles West of Akron sometime in April.
Check out the ICPI.org site for more info.

Remember that a paver job is all based on the base and sand. Thats where the pitch has to be. The pavers are only a wearing coarse over the sand. I agree with Paps, 1/4" / 10'

Just make sure your pavers are sloped at 1/4" per foot. Not a 1/4" per 10 feet. Ok.
