How much would you recommend a solo LCO to start the pay rate at, lets say for example an 18-year old laborer, or trimmer operator, who has no previous landscape background?

Whatever you do decide to pay him/her, go just a little under and once they prove they can do the job that you want and are happy with, reward them and give them a raise. Around here I would not likely find anyone for under $15 per hour, even if they did not speak english.

it all depends on your region. All of us can give you advice on what to pay, but different areas in the country change or pay certain amounts. I know here a descent pay for starting out is between $7 and $9, while other areas it would be $10 to $12

whatever you can afford less a little so you can give a raise with performance.

call around to want ads in the paper and see what he going rate is and go from there.
