I've done several patios but this one has me a little stumped. This is a large paver patio that is going to have 2 levels and along the backside is going to be a matching retaining wall. Basically it's going to have 1 step up to the other "level". But the step is going to be along the entire length, if that makes sense. Should I excavate the entire area level and build the entire patio and just lay the matching retaining wall blocks for the step up on the raised portion and finish on top of that with the pavers? Or, is there a better way?? Is there any special materials that I may need to make this work? It is for a family friend so i can experiment a little and there is no budget, which helps! I've always just excavated the entire area with a SS. But this time i'm going to be moving a lot of material because it is built into the slope. Would a mini-x or a tractor with a backhoe work better? Thanks guys!
