Pictures Of Invading Grass

    hi there,

    here are two pictures of the grass/weed that is invading my st. augustine. i have no idea what it is or how to get rid of it. even my organiccare guy does not know what it is. any suggestions appreciated.

    At first I thought quackgrass, but looking closer, I think it's just plain ol' "smooth crabgrass". I'm curious to see what other, more knowledgeable folks have to say.

    Aren't crabgrass and St. Augustine pretty much the same? <JK> :laugh:

    Looks like common bermuda. Common bermuda has very invasive runners that grow fast in the hot weather. It definately isn't crabgrass(does not have runners). You are going to be in for a battle keeping this out of your St. Augustine.

    That first picture of the runner does look like common bermuda but that second one..... never seen ol' wiregrass look like that.

    That is definately Burmuda. You will probably have to kill the entire spot and prepare and reseed. If it is coming from a neighbors yard you will have to put a barrier between your yards like an island.
