pine-needles vs. mulch/bark

    hey im new to this and new to landscaping i've been in for 2 years now. Anyway i was wondering what the pro's and con's of pine needles and mulch i hear that mulch can mold or something? also is it good to put the trench between a sidewalk and grass or just trim it back whats the difference on that? thanks in advance for the help

    I have seen both pine straw and mulch get mold. Not much you can do. Pinestraw is cheaper but has to be done more. I have customers that want it done twice a year but mostly once per year. Mulch cost considerably more but you can go longer without having to top. There is also a debate about termites in mulch. I have not personally seen termites in mulch but I hear about it. I use a stick edger between the sidewalk and grass.
