What are the prices people are paying in NC, SC, MS, AL and FL? Whats the quality like and what type are you getting?

The average price for long-needle for me is $3.85/bale. That's my typical price for small jobs. I can get about .25 cheaper when ordering large quantities.

Sounds like the quality must be good, how many pounds do the bales weigh or what are the dimensions or how many square feet is a bale covering?

We're paying in the $6/bale range in the N.O., LA area.

Wayyyyyy too much. BUT - the quality is on point (if that makes up for the price..?! :dizzy::dizzy::dizzy: )

Thanks for replying, thats really interesting. I've heard that there is a lot of mechanically made bales in the western states, is that what you are getting?

    Is it longleaf?

I couldn't tell you what the dimensions are. I ordered a full tractor trailer for a job 2 months ago and it held 1344 bales loaded to the door. I paid $3.60/bale for that load.

    lawnspecialties,

Thanks for the reply! How many square feet did you end up covering with that load?

P.S. Or cubic feet or however you roll. I can handle it.

Thanks for participating in this thread, I appreciated it.

No real way to tell on the square feet. It was for the common areas of a subdivision plus about 6 or 7 home installations. That took a little over 1000 bales and we sold the rest of the straw "per bale" to some other homeowners.

Great way to get rid of the extra.

Is anyone in Mississippi doing anything with pine straw?
