I have an area in my back yard that has a gradual slope to a pond it is about 8,000 sq. ft. I,ve tried natural prairie grass and flowers and it didn't seem to work out, I had alot of weed problems etc. and everthing seemed to grow to about 5-6' tall. I'm looking for something shorter, is there anything that would be an alternative to grass with minimum maintenance, or would grass be the way to go? Thank you:confused:

Try Buffalo Grass. Very low maintenance. Good for slopes or banks. I'm not sure how it will do in Minnesota though.

in PA we would use crown vetch, takes a long time to grow, but very low maintenance
  4. what about hard fescue and chewing fescue doesn't grow too high, low n 1 to 2lbs/yr more like 1 in mn

leave unmowed, or mow 2 -5 times per year if you wish

    Make sense, its late her
