I am going to be doing some aeration soon and was wondering if it is better to clean up and remove the dirt plugs or just to leave them on the lawn?
    Thanks in advance.

leave them...it is part of the process for them to breakdown...picking them up would cost more and be less effective.

Always leave them. There is beneficial bacteria in the soil that helps to break down thatch.

If they are a real problem you can cut them up with a vertical bladed machine but it is best if you leave them to break up slowly and work into the thatch layer. Another way to break them up is to scalp the lawn before aeration let them dry a while and run the mower over them again. Works to some degree. But still best to leave them. Golf courses pick them up because of the golfers.
