It does, but mostly use's all it's energy to grow horizonally which make's for a very thick carpet of grass, and yes you need to cut it twice weekly to keep it trained that way, you can get away with once a week but it will look yellow after you cut it, its a lot of work to keep your turf looking good, but it's worth it.
At the Ted, (Turner Field) they cut their ballpark everyday.

Best way to explain it is the turf is tight, you have to see it up close to know what I am talking about, Chris had a up close pic, His lawn used to look as tall as your's.

Twice weeklt and sometimes 3 times per week depending on the rain. I have to say my lawn looks better this season then it has ever looked. I am now cutting with my rotary mower since I do not irrigate. I have not fertilized since June...

Chris, You're just whimping out on me, you can still cut with the reel at a higher length.

I'm watching them too, as I said the cut every day and that pattern is burned in the turf!
If I'm not mistaken they cut the outfield at .75" even though to me it looks shorter when I walked the outfield with my grandkids.

It depends how bad your lawn is, is it bumpy? Its hard to tell with the pics, but my neighbor cuts his lawn with his Mclaine reel and he never sanded it and it look's ok, it would look better with it sanded.
If you cut it short you have to keep it watered otherwise it dries out quickly.

Still have the seed heads? They should be done with by now, bring the reel over someday and backlap it.
