I'm thinking of using a pre-emergent weed killer on some of my
customers shrub & flower beds. Has anyone done this if so dose
it work is it worth the time and what else is out there besides Preen.

I shall make the obligatory response....

Are you a licensed pesticide applicator?

I always apply Pre-M to our beds.... I dont know if this is the same thing, but... it keeps the weeds down, especially if you put it down before applying new mulch.

i used preen on a good % of my full service maintenance accounts last season and i definatly noticed a big differace in the ammout of man/women hours that we acctually spent hand weeding properties. No pre-emergent is going to completely control weeds in a ornemental bed, i dont care how good they claim to be its just not going to happen.

but ive ben very satisfied with the result that i get from preen, and i will be deffinatly using it agian next year

We ussually apply it with a hand held broadcast spreader...just make sure you bush off the leaves of any near by plants after you get done...havent had a problem with ant damage to surrounding plant life.

heres some pics of my weeding crew at a condo complex

Preen does an excellent job keeping the weeds down in shrub beds. But do not apply it under the new mulch, put it ontop of the new mulch since that will be where the new weed seeds will be. Might as well keep a barrier over everything instead of a barrier under more weed seeds.

We use Treflan, same active ingredient as preen in a higher percent.

I have had very good results with Preen. I would recommend it.
