I have searched all old threads and im confused. One person says dig out the pitch when your taking out the dirt and the other says to set string lines at the pitch and bring base to it to get the proper pitch. So i should dig it out flat and set pitch with string lines. How do you guys get the base level if your working with say a 12x12 patio do you screed the base before you screed stone dust or sand (whatever you use). Im just curiuos on how all you guys do it?

    Hewitt64,

The soil should be the same pitch as your as the pavers.
This ensures equal amounts or thickness of base. Equal amounts of base is what we strive for. And, always use sand not screenings. If your serious about learning more about correct paving stone installation you may think about taking an ICPI, Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute, course they are worth the investment of both time and money.

    Peace,

    Rex
