Price Check

    Again, that's alotta units and people involved for a such a small job. Sounds like larger jobs are more suited for your portfolio.

    The type of contractor doing smaller jobs such as the walk at hand, do not have delivery drivers and 50,000#(+) trucks. Seldom, do the contractors with the 50,000#(+) trucks do quality work. Usually more geared for production work.

    So sure, you may be capable of doing the job faster, but in terms of numbers you're not necessarily making any more money than anyone else. See, the title of this thread is 'Price Check'. About-Z-Dinero! :drinkup:

    Another analogy is references. I would not supply a prospective client with a $5500 project a reference for whom we did a $60,000 project, and vice versa. Same with a small job, on a forum. Most of us don't have delivery trucks and drivers.

    1. Expand on what numbers? That someone with 5 sets I hands in the pot and multiple sets of wheels involved isn't making any more? No, I won't expand, I don't have that much interest, really none as that's a whole different topic. Start a new topic and next week when I have time possibly I'll chime in.

    2. There is a saying. "Keep it real". What you need to realize is that there are probably 13 rookie guys out there reading this thread with intent if using the information posted. Someone out there is new to the industry and is pricing a walk similar. They see where someone said "oh, it's a one day job" and they will take it to heart, not realizing this person has a driver and a 50,000 gvw truck. See, you did not disclose that in your initial posts. Three weeks from now someone will launch a thread about being underbid. And probably because some rookie read misleading information on the Internet and ran with it :)

    The first thing anybody should learn is not taking everything so serious that they read on the Internet.

    If that's the case then why do you and I have so much time and effort invested in this site? Otherwise, you and I may as well go volunteer at the local soup kitchen.

    Sure, you should take things with a grain of salt. But there is a ton of solid, credible information here.

    Their is a small handful of people I take seriously in these forums, 3 of them in this forum. It's easy to sift through the ego.

    Us old time forum members and the veteran contractors know who is who here and what is what.

    But the rookie guys don't know any better.

    And that's how the pricing gets out of whack.

    Some guys just are ok with making less money. I was talking to a GC the other day about some of his subs and prices guys are giving. Sure their schedule is full and they do lots of jobs but at the end of the month they broke even. I'll keep my prices up and my work flow steady but I've never taken a job for practice.
