Just wanted to see if any of you had an approximately pricing guideline you go buy on certain things.

For instance, we charge about 90 cents to $1 per square foot to install sod. But I I'd love to come up with a square foot price for other things like French Drains, rock walls, etc.

Anything would be helpful. Just trying to come up with some formulas to make bidding easier.

    Jim -

Run a few searches here on pricing and the various services you want info about. There've been many threads about this. You'll likely find them very helpful.

hmmm. That's just the going rate around here. The more established, well known companies get about $1.30 or per square ft.

I'm with Paul on this one. $3 t0 $4 on sod by the yard. Around $.05 to $.06 on new yard seeding. It still all comes down to how much time does it take, what is the cost of your materials, what is the markup, and what is the job worth to your customer. Thhe magic wand of xxx amount per xxx item is a hard one to wave in this business. Better left to the grocery store.

Just wondering, Clinton: Are your plant prices including the installation? Also, there must be a huge difference in the cost of shrubs and annuals on the west coast compared to the east coast. Also, plant varieties affect pricing too much here to give a single size/price.

Lanelle, I hope this Helps! Yes plant prices and all
    items shown do include installation.

I don't know what your shrubs and annuals cost you
on the east coast, but for example here in California
    1/gallons run from 1.60 to 9.50 per.
But in most all cases for Schools, parks, street scapes ,apt's and tract homes, they never use
1/gallon shrubs that cost more than 3.50, and
may be installed from companys for around 4.80 to
    7.80 and 5/gallons around 6.80 average cost...
and installed for around 10.50 to 17.50.

Out here if you bid on a city jobs, parks,
street scapes or even tract homes all they
are after is what is the cost to install a 1/gallon,
5/gallon, etc. so what most do is get there prices
for each type of plant that is to be installed and do average cost of them and then put together there bid...

    Example:
job calls for 100 - 1/gals to be installed and there are say, four types of shrubs and your cost for each type of
    25 may look like this.:
    25- 1/gal's at 1.90 ea = 47.50
    25- 1/gal's at 2.85 ea = 71.25
    25- 1/gal's at 3.50 ea = 87.50
    25- 1/gal's at 3.60 ea = 90.00
your total cost is.........296.25 divided x 100= 2.96 average cost per 1/gallon shrub.
when bidding out the cost of labor remember that it cost
no more to plant a shrub that cost 1.90 than it doe's
for the one at 3.60 price.
Single size/price is after you have done all your cost and put your markups on each.
