Found a 1995 Isuzu npr diesel for $750.00...new tranny, tires, with an extra set of tires, 16' box, dovetail...a/c works, 160,000 miles, guy said it runs, but batteries we're dead...I'll test drive it tommorrow...the guy is downsizing and doesn't need this truck anymore, was wondering what I should look for...I planned on buying one in the future, just with a gas engine...this one is diesel, but for the price, I figured it was an awesome deal...

The diesel is MUCH better than the gas in those trucks, but $750. seems pretty low, even for a 95? 160K is not many miles on an Isuzu diesel also. But with a new tranny, you probably would be alright, as long as it drives OK, The cheapest Ive ever seen one is around $2000. If he only wants 750, there must be something wrong with it though, unless he doesnt know much about those trucks.

The box is worth $750.00 . I run two Isuzus-(lawn maintenance) one has the gm 5.7 litre and the other is a diesel. They both are good trucks. Good buy at $750 even if it didn't run for a month. You could sell it to a junk yard and get your money back out of it. I agree with Mike it sounds to good to be truck. I would be interested in buying it if you decide you don't want it. Good Luck!

Test drove it today for 20 minutes...no hang-ups, ran smooth, no smoke...the only thing I'm leary about is there's an exhaust hose coming from the bottom of the motor towards the back...after 30 minutes of running, there was still smoke coming out...I asked the guy about it, don't remember what it was called, some kinda of exhaust, but he said they would add smoke away to clear it...he also threw in 4 new tires...I'll post pics later....

Could that be the exhaust brake? If it runs OK, I would buy it, as mentioned above, even if it runs for a month, sell the box, sell the new tranny, and part the rest out, you will probably come out way ahead, or just take the rest of the truck to the scrap yard, you would get around $400. just in scrap metal for the rest!

what does that mean...I'm mechanically inclined, but diesel's are new to me...btw, it has 121,000 miles instead of 160,000...

I have two Isuzu cab overs both are diesel they are pretty decent trucks. Beware though parts are high dollar. I am in the process of replacing the head gasket on one of mine. I took the head in to have it resurfaced and the machine shop said that those trucks are notorious for cracked heads (fyi). The white smoke was blow-by and that could be a sign that shes getting to be worn out especially if its very bad. All in all if you can get it for that price I would say go for it. Hope this helps a little.
