Re-updated "Top of the line" Blower comparison chart

    When i started in the early 80's 17 hp kohler was the engine everyone wanted it was a horizantal shaft produced far more power than you could ever use and was very good on fuel. Now manufacturers use verticle shaft engines mostly which takes twice the horsepower to achieve same results. And you burn twice the fuel. First couple years kawasaki came out you could not give them away we bought one around 1986 even finding a spark plug was a job back then. Equient has improved in most aspects except length of life.

    If you prefer driving vehicles 10+ years old bless you. I don't.

    Wasn't aware the trannys were the same. Thought the military used a 3 speed with a max speed of around 70 mph.

    We got here because you don't like using new vehicles/equipment. To each their own.

    Agreed. I have 1 7500 and won't be adding another. I'll add 8500's as needed until something more powerful comes along. The extra money is well worth the power and that money will be replaced easier if/when the time comes to sell an 8500 vs a 7500.

    I buy my trucks cheap haha When you buy a 1 ton 4wd and a 1 ton hd stake truck both with 6.5's and getting both for 4 grand you tend to wonder why in the world would you consider buying a truck for 50k. New vehicles a pain to work on too.... They use to use a 3l80e which was a 3 speed. I thought I read they went to a 4 speed. My one 1 ton can only do 80 because it has a 4.56 gears. If they had a 5.11 then a 4 speed would match

    Those 6.5's are a crap shoot. Every so often they built a good one but for the most part the majority are/were lousy. They couldn't compete with Ford or Dodge and had to come up with the Duramax.

    Could be wrong but I thought its a 3speed and why you'd see them crawling down the highway.

    The 6.5 was not a bad design and have served the military well. The problem lay within GM in their poor attempt at adapting the engine to the trucks. The way GM had the cooling systems designed caused many of the engines to run too hot and crack heads. The engine has always had lackluster power compared to other newer diesels from Cummins, Isuzu, and International. The 6.5 is a true diesel design and could have easily been de-bugged by GM but it really was just meant to fill the gap GM had in their light truck segment until the newer Dmax design was ready. GM owns a small percentage of Isuzu and it's a good thing they do. Isuzu's diesel is a key player in modern diesel design. Their gas engines leave much to be desired but their diesels are known for long service life. I run older trucks and keep them well maintained. They spend little time in the shop mainly because I am the main one behind the wheel of them so they get treated well. Everyone has priorities and for my situation spending 50 grand on a work truck isn't how I choose to spend my money. I'd rather buy a piece of equipment for my farm or update my property. To each his own.

    There's plenty of good/great used trucks out there tha you don't have to spend anywhere near $50k.

    Absolutely. And many are 10yrs old or older that still have many useful miles left in them if they were treated well by the previous owners. 7.3 Powerstrokes are one example. 1998-2001 7.3 models well taken care of are known for long life. Same with earlier Cummins equipped Dodges.
    My main truck is a 1995 model and it's not even a diesel. I've took such good care of the truck that I'd not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It's just a TBI 5.7 gasser. Not a torque monster but very easy and inexpensive to maintain. I don't regularly pull 10K lbs or more so I don't need 800ft lbs of torque.:nono:
