Get yourself a big freekin hammer (BFH) and beat on the hub and the wheel will come free.

Then, once you get it serviced, sell it while you still can get some money out of an MTD.

There is no oil in that transaxle, They are packed with grease from the factory.

The noise is a worn input pinion gear and bearings along with both bevel gears on the driveshaft inside, You will most likely need more than WD to get those wheels off the axles.

I've had to cut both wheels and axles off to do repairs. Now I just leave the dang things on if they won't slide off, I drop transaxle tires and all then block the transaxle up and open it tires on.

Yep..... Axle and all when the retainer clip inside snaps.....

I didn't say hit it with a sledge hammer.

I haven't worked on too many MTD's, so are you saying that they won't take a little tap from a mallet ???

Beating with a BFH no, Little tap with a mallet yes but 80% I run across won't budge with a "little tap from a mallet".

Just a caution that's all...... Thumbs Up

Wiring all torn up. Now trans issues. Give it to a scrap guy and go on your merry way.

Honestly it wasnt much of a machine when it was new...they dont get better with age.
