Got this e-mail thismorning form Husqvarna. Doesnt make me too happy, I guess if Husqvarna Sweden would take over and kick out some of the top guys, like Zerfoss, from Husqvarna U.S.A. then it could be a good thing.

    Any way here it is.

Husqvarna AB: Husqvarna Signs Agreement to Acquire Outdoor Power Products Operation from Komatsu of Japan
STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Husqvarna has signed a Letter of Intent with Komatsu Ltd. regarding acquisition of the outdoor power products operation within Komatsu Zenoah Co. ("Komatsu Zenoah").

Komatsu Zenoah is a leading producer of portable outdoor power products and is the market leader in Japan. The outdoor-product range comprises mainly brush cutters, chainsaws, trimmers and blowers. Sales for this operation in 2005/2006, the latest fiscal year, amounted to approximately JPY 19 billion (approximately USD 170m), of which about half in Japan. The number of employees was approximately 700. Production is based in Japan and China.

The acquisition will strengthen Husqvarna’s position in the global market for professional forestry equipment as well as portable lawn and garden equipment, and will also strengthen the Group’s presence in Asia.

A final agreement is expected to be signed before year-end, subject to due diligence and approval by the relevant authorities. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2007. The operation will be integrated in the Group’s Professional Products business area.

"Komatsu Zenoah has a strong product offering and extensive expertise in two-stroke engines. This provides a good fit with Husqvarna’s operations, and we see substantial opportunities for achieving synergies in several areas. The acquisition will also strengthen our position in Asia in terms of both market presence and production", says Bengt Andersson, President and CEO of Husqvarna.

Husqvarna is the world's largest producer of chainsaws, lawn mowers and other portable petrol-powered garden equipment such as trimmers and blowers. The Group is also a world leader in diamond tools and cutting equipment for the construction and stone industries. Net sales in 2005 were SEK 28.8 billion and the average number of employees was 11,700.

Coem on.. it's Husq. soon you will be able to buy Redmax at every Tractor Supply, Lowes, and Home Cheapo across the United States. Of course.. they'll be about the same quality as a Poulan, Weedeater by the time Husq finishes changing around the manufacturing to make them cheaper to produce. I can see it now.. Redmax dealers dropping the line by 5 a week.

I doubt any manufactureing will change on this buyout, I just hope they dont change how it is being sold to dealers and what they what the dealer to buy.

Toro is sold in HomeDepot, RC Willey, Ace Hardware and they own Exmark, so I dont think Redmax will be in any box store anytime in the near future. Yazoo isnt, Partner isnt and a couple more that Husky owns are not.

I just hope they can work together to make better products, some things Husky does very well and somethings Redmax does very well, if they do it right they could make something awesome. But thats dreaming I think. lol

Not that there is anything wrong with Husqvarna, their hedge trimmers and forestry products are very commercial and rugged.
But I agree they may put Redmax in the same line as weedeater with a buy now at your favorite barbershop mentality.

I'm going with Shindaiwa and Tanaka with a little Robin mixed in.

If those F@!#^$% change redmax's equipment or dealer network in any way I swear with God as my witness that I will never touch another redmax product and I will change my Lawnsite name to Walker/Tanaka. Redmax is the best outdoor power equipment made. Husqvarna is nowhere close (other than their chainsaws) IMO. This is the saddest thing to happen to the world since 9/11!
