    Question for ya'll...

I have a John Deere GS30 and it has a blown engine. It's missing quite a few parts so I'd like to just bolt a new engine on. My regular dealer says he can sell me a Kohler 15 horse that will bolt on fine for $550.

However, I went to the JD dealer to get some other parts and asked them for a price and their answer was $900 for a 13 horse!!! The reason being Deere has "patented" a type of Kohler engine and only these type will work....???

Has anyone repowered a GS series Deere with a Kohler engine? Is this just another case of a dealer trying to make some money selling proprietary parts when generic will work fine?

    Gimme the scoop!

The GS30 comes stock with a 13hp kohler. Go to www.smallenginewarehouse.com and pay around $425.00 + shipping(usually $50). It'll be to you in 2-3days and save yourself some money!!!
