So I bought a new house last year. The lawn is mostly weeds, no grass. It's a variety of different weeds, some broadleaf etc...

I'm looking to re-do the entire lawn, i've been doing some research and found this as the possible steps.

    1. Cut the grass(weeds) on the lowest mower setting and bag it.
    2. Spray weed and grass killer over the entire lawn.
    3. Wait a few weeks until everything is brown.
    4. Somehow remove the dead weeds and other vegetation (not sure on this one, if they just rake up or I need to till)
    5. Apply some organic dirt (again, not sure on this one as well, do I just use top soil or potting soil, can I use manure?
    6. Areate (i have the one that hooks onto the back of my lawnmower)
    7. apply seed (i'm thinking k31)
    8. Rake the seed in.
    9. Do I need to apply straw, is it necessary?

I was also reading on power seeders, do they make the work easier, I have around an Acre...

Kill it all off with Round up (mow low + bag afterwards), aerate, re-seed and roll the seed in. Just make sure the seed stays moist for two weeks.

What do you use to roll the seed in, also don't the dead weeds need to be removed?

If you spray them they'll be dead to the roots. Use a metal or poly roller.

K31, while inexpensive & old-school, has too much junk seed in it. If you're looking for more continuity as an end result, it may be wise to research other grass seed choices for your area. Try your State's extension office for suggestions.

Definitely not k31. I've had great results the past few seasons with southern supreme turf fescue blend

So these are the steps I'm getting.

    1. Cut the grass (real low).
    2. Spray round up.
    3. Aerate
    4. Spread seed
    5. Roll seed in
    6. Keep watering.

What's the diff between raking and rolling, the rake is cheaper, I don't have a roller.

Also, don't I need to add some sort of soil, manure etc...??

Why don't I need to remove the dead weeds, don't I need to rake these up at least?

Also when people say K31 is junk, is it because it's sold in the box stores, is there weed seeds in it, I'm looking at the southern states website, they are showing a Tall fescue blend for 20 bucks a 20 lb bag (sale)??

I believe all(?) seed bags have a spec sheet on them. Read and compare. If even 2% is junk seed, then you'll have 2000 weed seeds for every 100,000 seeds.

As stated, K31 is old school and is now lower echelon for turf quality. Think of it as playground seed for a schoolyard. The newer turf seeds have a richer color with much less junk seeds as a percentage.

Spray it with Round Up FIRST. Then mow it low.
