The 1st Annual Maryland Cookout and Competition was a great success. Everybody had a good time, participants and spectators alike. The turnout was a little light but I expected that.

George from Gambrills Equipment showed up and displayed his wares from Dixie Chopper and Stihl. He also provided (unexpectantly, I didn't know he was going to do this) prizes for the winners in the competitions.

Ken, who is the Dixie Chopper East Coast rep, showed up with 3 Dixies.

We also had a custom wheelie popping riding tractor show up.

While there was food like 2 different potato salads, pasta salads, burgers, hot dogs and chicken I really didn't get a chance to eat any of it. When I wasn't busy kicking the younger guys' butts in the competition I was running around mananging the whole affair.

I will let some of those who attended comment on the food.

It was a GREAT EVENT, I had a real good time. I did'nt have any of the food either, but did enjoy some cold beers. I also had alot of fun in the competitions. I cant believe that I actually won the straight line competiition after a few beers, on Richards mower!
What a great time though, looking foward to an even better turnout next year. Thanks Rich.

Sorry I couldn't make it guys. If it is held next year I will try harder to get off that day. I was working on Saturday to get caught up.

How big was the open trimming area? This is where I can kick butt (I think) We will have to see.

What were the prizes for the winners?

    Thanks
    Jim

It was a 10' by 7' area. The winner cut it with his trimmer in 18.72 seconds. He was using a brand-new Shindaiwa T-230 loaded with round .080 line with the guard in place.

George from Gambrills Equipment handed out sun glasses, hats, gloves and hearing protection (ear muffs) as prizes for the winners.

He has promised to provide the prizes again next year. He also said that they be of more value also.

We hope to move the Cookout and Competition next year to Mayo Beach Park. We had 2 acres of grass this year but we still ran out of grass to work with.

Mayo Beach Park is right around the corner from my house. It has acres and acres of grass, a pavilion, grills, restrooms and a 400+ foot beach right on the Chesapeake Bay.
