I have never used this but was interested since it is not supposed to root prune our stolon type grasses.

I was reading the label and on the main cover it says it is NOT for use on residential lawns. So I continued to read and under the Turf section it states "lawns" as one of the places you can use it.

Am I reading something wrong or are they contradicting themselves?

No, you are not reading it wrong. Anything intended for residential lawns bears labeling allowing it. The Ronstar label allows use on sports fields, industrial lawns, sod farms and golf courses only. Up until recently, Ronstar was not labeled for usage in residential landscape beds. Now there are clear instructions for usage in residential landscapes including a requirement that the applicator water in any application.
