I have a 10 year old Scag that is leaking hydro fluid from the rear left side. Could this be the hydro pump or wheel motor. If so, should I replace the seals? I was told to use 10W30 oil for the hydro system. Is this the correct oil to use?

You need to clean it up and then figure out whether it is the pump or the wheel motor. Usually in the wheels it isn't just a seal it is the bearing that wears out and that damages the seal and the rotor that runs in the bearing. Rarely can you repair them......too costly. I guess the pumps could be released but again if it is a bearing then same situatlon as wheel motor.

So once I figure out if it is the wheel motor or hydro pump I should replace the part that is leaking? Neither of these parts are reasonably serviceable?

I found out that the wheel motor is leaking. I add about a quart a day. Is it alright to keep adding oil or should I replace the motor because of possible metal shavings it may be putting in the system?
