Ok....scalp mow say in the 1" - 1.5" range vs. using a power rake set at just above grass crowns? Not a true dethatching I know but people always want the brown dormant grass scrubbed out. Correct me if my angle is incorrect - but my belief is that early spring scalping is the best time to mow low in regards to damage to the plant since it is just coming out of dormancy and the grass can recover quicker in the Spring than at any other time? ps. Also a little off topic is the issue of doing a low mow in the fall to prevent snow mold and disease in the turf? Purdue doesn't recommend this.
