What is better to seed or to sod? I have a customer that I cut for that wants to redo half of there back yard. Also is there any way to grow grass under pine trees?

No on grass under the pine, not enough sun light. Do they want grass now or can they wait, big yard or small, money:) do they have enough to afford sod?

They want about 1300sqft redone. They don't want to spend to much money but they just want grass in that part of their this year.

Lack of sunlight under a Pine is really a minor reason you'll find no grass under them. The real reason is that teh fallen needles and there chemical make up create soil conditions not hospitable to grass or just about any other leafy plant.

sod it. That is only $361.40 worth at the prices we have in Kansas. They would be much happier with a sodded lawn especailly if there is shade to deal with.
