I am trying to get more customers this year and was thinking about trying to focus my attention on getting senior citizen accounts. My wife suggested that I send flyers to the various senior organizations. I think that this sounds like a good idea but was wondering if any of you have advise on other ways to get more people from this demographic? Are there more affective ways to advertise to this group?

Go to a church, I am serious, most old people go to some kind of church and also most people who go to church are honest payers. Just pass out flyers and old people will call, just put on senior citizen discount, but you dont have to give any discount. This is matt not pat, so dont hold this against him.

    Hi bldinke,

Maybe you could offer some kind of discount or special for senior citizens? Possibly make a flyer with that special offer in the corner so you can use the flyer for everyone yet still show the "senior special."

the only problem about senior citizens is that they are on a fixed income most times. So yes they are great customers, but it's very hard to upsell something to them because of their tight budget

But for just mowing instead of sitting on your ass waiting for a big job, senior citizens are the best clients imo. They always pay on time, give tips, and come out with drinks and food. They dont complain either.

they do love to talk, and that can take some time. I plan on an extra 20 minutes every time I cut one of lawns (condo manager).
But he does give me a coke, and tell good stories.

You're much better off targeting a neighborhood(s) than a particular type of person.
    Direct mailings to the homes.

    Once may not be enough.
Two or three times a year is not too much while you are building your client list.
Families move for various reasons, they change lawn services, they decide it's too hot and they don't want to do it anymore, etc.

If direct mail is too much $, go door to door with flyers.
