I have two unit mowers ,the same built, but different engines, same hp! One is a 18hp vanguard, the other is kohler chs18. when running both the vanguard and kohler.vanguard at full throttle, kohler about 3/4 throttle are (in-sink or in tune) with one another! the kohler sounds good at full throttle and sounds like 3600 rpm with no load. the vanguard does not match the kohler rpm. can I tune the vanguard rpm to the kohler which sounds good! I have no rpm tack. Can this done by the governor bracket control on the briggs or the Gov control lever adjustments? or take to the shop? thanks for any idea's!!:usflag:

In a perfect world you really need two of the same engines. Then it's still hard to tune both to run exactly the same. In either case you need to go and buy a tach to even get close.

Run it by a shop, Minor adjustments such as this I perform while the customer waits for a minimum charge.

Moving (adjusting) the wrong thing could blow the engine up.

I think anyone who works on their equipment should have a good inductive tach I bought one from my Stihl dealer for about $100.

We use these on all our rental equipment and I keep one in my tool box for testing/tune-ups.

It's a sweet little tach for the money.

I use a SenDEC meter. I just looked at it and the battery is dead. I'm going to try and open it to change the battery even though it's non serviceable. I have nothing to loose. I think it cost me about $34.00 5 or 6 years ago.

The first one is what we use.
