Whats the best seed to put down in the shade. I have a couple guys who have tried growing grass in their backyards and have had no luck. Its not a woods by any means but has 7-8 trees which keep it pretty shaded.

The fine fescues work in some shade, example-creeping red fescue, but they need some sunlight.
Check out a shade mix at a nursery and see the names of them. You can just get one kind of seed or a mixture.

If you do this I would advise them that the trees would need to be trimmed to allow light to enter the area.

have the soil checked before seeding. may need more than seed if the trees are old and large.
