i'm seriously considering purchasing one of these...but i read in another thread that the shafts on these are 5 inches shorter than standard...i'm pretty sure standard is 57 inches. i find it hard to believe that these are only 52 inches...can someone who has one confirm or disprove this for me please and thanks.

I have a 242. When it is lined up with my other trimmers, it appears to be 2-3 inches shorter. I prefer my Husqvarna and Kawasaki trimmers over the 242. They have better throttle response with good low end torque.

I owned one for two days, then returned it. Really bad throttle response, lacked power. A real dog.

fyi for all you guys. they redid the 242, i have a new and old style one and the newer one is worlds apart. still a bit cold blooded for a min or so, but it is a power house and throttle response is awesome. it may be a tad shorter but i dont have another one here to compare to sorry. but i am very very very very very happy with my new 242. Almost as good as the old T260's.

The first t260 had carb screws were you could crank em up.

yeah or you could just pull up on the throttle cable and pull the cover out the top of the carb and use it like cruise control, and it would up your high rpm because it made the trigger pull longer. wish they still made the old 260, greatest trimmer ever made period. a powerhouse in a med. weight package.
