im looking at a 93 reg cab f250 4x4. It has about 200k miles on it, but 37k on the motor and trans. Everything works on it and drives solid, everything works, ac, 4x4, pw and locks.. He was asking 3k, but I got him down to $2200... is it a decent buy, or is it trouble waiting to happen?

    thanks

I thought you hated Fords? They're good trucks no doubt but if the TTB front end needs work be ready to throw down some cash. Tie rods, ends and ball joints add up quick. You didn't mention which engine it has.

What would you need it for? Don't you already have an '01 2500? I'd definetly save the money and run away. $2200? :dizzy: Save up and buy yourself a dump trailer, or insert for your 2500. Thats what I'd do atleast.

What kind of engine, what transmission?

$2200 is gonna be a steal on that truck if it is in as good of shape as you say it is.

Does it track straight? Do the front wheels have the correct camber and alignment? If it is a gas truck the condition of the TTB front end would be my only concern. However the F-250HD D50 TTB's do hold up better than the F-150 D44 or F-250LD D44HD TTB units do. The D50's gears and outer assemblies are the same as the D60.

I'd ask to drive it for a day, just to make sure it doesn't overheat, doesn't shift bad, and doesn't develop any conditions that would make it undriveable or undesireable.

I decided im not going to buy it, it has a engine leak. its minor, but who knows what else that could lead to. Plus, my old truck that had problems was a 94 with less miles. So Im going to steer clear i think, and get what I really need, a dump truck.
