I have a job that has a bunch of Rugosa Rose and was curious should I mulch around them? I have heard some people say not to and other say I could it won't kill it. Just don't want to spend the time if I don't have to.
    Thanks

Well nobody HAS to do anything really. They will be fine without it sometimes better with it depends on if you need to keep the soil from drying out too fast or freezing .Mulch helps both those things. You just don't want to put it around a rose that's planted too deep and don't want it touching the base of the rose, keep 4"or 5" away.Because bugs love roses, and mulch gives them a great place to hide and breed and eat on the rose parts is one of the reasons given for not doing it,like I said nobody HAS to do anything in a garden.
