slate walk way?

    I Have a customer that wants a walk way made out of random size pieces of "slate" any ideas on what i coulsd use if slate isnt avaiable?

    They might mean flagstone.

    Slate, blue stone, flag stone, shale, fieldstone, wallstone. ;)

    sandstone, any type of flat stone

    best idea- go to the supplier and get samples of colors and sizes. plus texture is a big factor. let them choose-your job is to inform them about the different stones and what to expect from each.

    he wants this to look like the old english garden style walk way like you would see back in the old country, with gaps and spaces between the pieces of fieldstone, what can i put in between, and also one side of the walk way has to have a border what are some ideas

    I like sandstone if you have a stone yard near they can give you lots of options. I use a ss edging from time to tome it would go well with stepping stones and i like to use moss in between the stepping stones.

    ok he wants to go with flagstone, so my next question is how much am i going to need. The supplier i buy my stuff from sells it by the ton, so how do i quote a price??

    just ask the supplier, there will be a finite amount of sq ft in a ton.

    pick ppl's brains..ask questions.
