First let me start off by saying I'm not a pro. Just been reading this site for info. I'm gonna take on a my own patio project this summer. My question is this. I want to install a 8' wide patio around my pool. my coping is 15" above the grade at the 8 foot mark where the patio would end. I'm gonna install a retaining wall back fill and lay a concrete paver patio. I just can't wrap my head around if I bring the wall up even to the height of the coping including the cap on the wall how will my paver not be significantly below the wall cap if I grade the sub base with the proper slope. I think I'm way over thinking this. Any help would be appreciated.

Where is up north? The top of the wall cap should be lower than the coping so water drains away and not into the pool.

    Alldayrj,
So basically what your saying is I should build the wall about a 1 to 1.5 inches lower at the 8' mark where the patio will end then the pool coping height to make the proper slope with my sub base and sand.

Yes with 1/8" to 1/4" slope per foot you would be 1" to 2" lower. Did your pool company set the pool up high so they could lose the excavated dirt in the yard? How long has the pool been in the ground? Settling is a big issue

They did minor grading. My back yard sloped from left to right so I had them put it on the higher portion do I didn't get run off into the pool. I should have dropped the grade all,the way down but they wanted 400 hundred a truck load to remove dirt they said it could run around 3000. I didn't go for it since I knew where they were dumping and only being charge 25 a truck load. Btw I live in Long Island where you are. That patio is going on the right side of the pool the lower side.
