I am not really in need of a 3/4 ton diesel since I have decided to do lawn mowing just "on the side". I am thinking of trading the old Cummins in for a small truck. Most likely that will put me in the $7500-8000 range. Help me pick a truck! Here are some requirements I have:

    1. d-e-p-e-n-d-a-b-i-l-i-t-y !!!

    2. 4wd, ext or crew cab, long bed.

    3. Something that will tow reasonably well or haul a load, occasionally. (nothing super-heavy)

    4. d-e-p-e-n-d-a-b-i-l-i-t-y !!!

    5. Good MPG's

    6. NOT ugly...

    7. d-e-p-e-n-d-a-b-i-l-i-t-y !!!

Please be specific and remember I don't mind older trucks as long as they are dependable. THANKS!

If you are looking for a small truck I would go with Toyota. Of course I don't know how much weight you are pulling...

I might occasionally have to pull a small trailer or boat. Nothing real heavy. Maybe 2000-3000 lbs? Just a guess.

I have been thinking Toyota Tacoma ExtCab Longbed 4x4. Which engine should I consider... anyone?

Nothing wrong with the Nissan... moneyman is right.

I perfer the Toyota Tundra myself, however. You would have to check the specs -- it might get more MPG than the Nissan, but also realize that it's got a MUCH smaller engine.

A1 Grass, you're going to get 50 people telling you Ford sucks, go Chevy. Then 50 will tell you Chevy sucks, go Ford. Then another 50 will tell you American trucks suck, go Toyota or Nissan.

Bottom line, at $7000 to $8000 just find something that has been well taken care of. Clean inside & out, drives smooth, no pings, no funny noises, and has some guts to it. Good luck with the search.
