sod question

    can i just roto till my curennt lawn and add some top soil and be able to lay sod down? or does all the old grass have to be ripped up?

    I have burnt out old grass before with a weedeater. Probably not the best way to do it and I have only done it when the grass is mostly weeds or very thin. However, the ST. Augustine laid on top did well. I think that all the grass and weeds that were cut made good fertilizer for the new sod.
